Arc Raiders Gear Bench Priorities by U4GM

You extract with a pack full of parts, open the Workshop, and suddenly every upgrade looks tempting. That is exactly how Arc Raiders burns through a Raider's best materials. Your early goal is not a fully maxed crafting room; it is a repeatable loop where ARC Raiders Items become shields, supplies, and better loot runs before your next Expedition resets the board.

Build for Survival Before DPS

The starting workbench already covers basic ammunition, a Light Shield, Shield Recharger, recovery supplies, and a few dependable early weapons. Don't read that as permission to ignore upgrades. Read it as freedom to be selective. Gear Bench level 2 is usually the first meaningful target because it opens stronger protection and better gear options, including Looting Mk. 2. More carrying efficiency does not sound flashy, but it changes the whole grind: a successful extraction funds several future crafts instead of just replacing what you spent.

  • 1. Build the Gear Bench before chasing specialized damage tools.
  • 2. Push it to level 2 when Plastic Parts, Fabric, Power Cables, Electrical Components, and a Hornet Driver are available.
  • 3. Pick Gunsmith or Medical Lab next based on what actually ends your runs.
  • 4. Save level 3 materials until you know which craft will stay in your regular loadout.

What Is Actually Stopping Your Runs?

Arc Raiders players often copy a "best order" without asking why their last few runs failed. If you keep extracting early because your healing supply is thin, the Medical Lab has more practical value than another weapon recipe. If your shots lack punch and you already have recovery handled, the Gunsmith earns its place. The Gunsmith's later levels demand specialized mechanical parts and ARC enemy drops, so it is a commitment, not a casual side project. And if you are researching buy ARC Raiders Station options, identify that weakness first; no shortcut replaces a Workshop plan that matches your playstyle.

The Level 2 Sweet Spot

Level 3 benches are endgame goals, not automatic upgrades. From what I've seen, the strongest rebuilding runs come from spreading a few level 2 unlocks across the stations that support your normal kit, then committing rare components to one clear level 3 payoff. Gear Bench level 3 and its Looting Mk. 3 reward players who make extraction value their main priority. Gunsmith level 3 makes more sense after you have a stable route for advanced mechanical components and Sentinel Firing Cores.

Upgrade Best Use Case Why It Pays Off
Gear Bench Level 2 Most loadouts Improves protection and loot capacity.
Medical Lab Level 2 Solo recovery runs Reduces pressure to leave after one bad fight.
Gunsmith Level 2 Weapon-first players Adds crafting depth for a preferred combat build.
Refiner Planned upgrades Turns raw material flow into required processed parts.

The Materials Mistake I Wish I Avoided

Common parts are not disposable clutter. Metal Parts, Rubber Parts, Fabric, Plastic Parts, Chemicals, and ARC Alloy feed several benches, which means a pile that looks healthy can vanish after two upgrades. Keep advanced electrical and mechanical components, enemy-linked drivers, cells, cores, and medical vault materials off the casual recycling pile. A good rule is simple: before selling anything uncommon, check the next two Workshop levels you want. That small pause prevents the miserable situation where one missing component stalls an entire build.

Refiner Timing and Expedition Decisions

The Refiner is strongest after you have a target, not before. Build it once processed materials are repeatedly blocking your Gear Bench, Gunsmith, or Medical Lab plans; otherwise, you may spend resources creating options you cannot act on. The same logic applies before an Expedition. Don't finish every bench merely because the empty slots look unfinished. Compare one more upgrade against the combat items, provisions, and materials needed for departure. A level 2 Looting upgrade that helps fill your caravan is often more valuable than an expensive final craft you will use only once before the reset.

Run This Workshop Check Before Deploying

Before each Arc Raiders deployment, check three things: what material your next upgrade needs, which ARC threat can supply its rare part, and which crafted item protects the loadout you are taking out. That turns random loot into a focused objective. Pick up the materials that move your current plan forward, craft only what helps the next few runs, and leave the shiny-but-unneeded recipe for later. The Workshop rewards discipline more than max-level flexing, and that is what keeps each new Raider cycle moving forward.
